Many of you know how much we here at VISTA Gardens value our mission of sustainability. A major part of fulfilling that is related to the compost we create for our members. The volume is supported by the six days a week buckets of discarded fruits and vegetables from the nearby Community Food Pantry at the Village Presbyterian Church, which moves 26,000+ pounds of food each week and serves 80,000+ people annually. While VISTA has accepted all of their compostable, outdated food items, we now have made room in our garden to work with a local school and its students who created a program to compost its cafeteria’s discarded fruits and vegetables.
VISTA is looking for a local community garden that wants to either develop a new compost program, or increase the volume of its current program. In either case, you would arrange to pick up buckets of discards from the Community Food Pantry two days a week. In return, we are more than happy to guide you in your new and/or expansion composting efforts.
