VISTA was pleased today to be part of the Coalition of Community Gardens’ training and certification progam for people wishing to achieve the title of Urban Agriculture Specialist. Shown here is VISTA member Bonnie working with Valentina and April on the Dune Sunflower area.
This training, developed by UF IFAS Extension Hillsborough County in conjunction with the City of Tampa as part of the USDA grant, trains people to support members of the community as they learn to grow their own groceries! Additionally, it provides step by step instruction on how to start and maintain a community garden.
This curriculum is available for everyone to take, no matter your gardening skill level, and consists of computer training along with hands on time in the garden. COCG wants to certify as many people as possible. The Coaltion encourages you to invest in yourself, and share in the joy, community, and health that gardening brings.
