A Day of Firsts, Hard Work, and Garden Magic!

Remasterdirector 1a5c03258

What an absolutely amazing day at Community SOGarden! We had sunshine, fresh harvests, and a whole lot of hands in the dirt!

First, a huge welcome and thank you to our newest volunteers, Christina and Raven! They signed up through the Coalition of Community Gardens website and jumped right in, planting basil and okra and experiencing the pure joy of harvesting collards and carrots for the first time! Their excitement was contagious—of course, we had to capture their gigantic smiles holding up their fresh-picked veggies!

While they were getting their first taste of gardening, Gerardo and Lindsay were busy spreading mulch near the entrance, giving our space a fresh new look. Over in the greenhouse, Tammy and Susan worked on nurturing plants, ensuring our little green beauties are thriving. Eva and I tackled planting peppers and installed additional sprinklers to keep things happy and hydrated. Meanwhile, Julie and Shirley harvested beets and the last of our season’s lettuce—a bittersweet but satisfying end to another great crop!

But that’s not all! Vivian, Elise, and Alvin spent the day tending to the apiary, making sure our buzzing friends are happy and healthy. And let’s not forget Sandi, who gave love to the worms (our tiny composting champions) and collected leaves to brew up some tea!

Days like this remind us why we love our garden. It’s about more than just plants—it’s about community, learning, and celebrating every little victory.

Thank you to everyone who came out today—you make this space truly special! See you in the garden soon! – Natsu
